Autism and Bullying - Grab the Bull by the Horns!

We had a little bullying problem this year and I thought that I should grab the bull by the horns. Let's raise awareness about the bullying of our children with autism!

Researchers from the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore and Johns Hopkins University conducted a survey of 1,200 parents who had a child with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and found 63 percent of the kids had been bullied.

But we don't need research to tell us that our kids have a big target on their backs, we see it everyday. Not only by other kids but by caregivers and teachers as well. How many times have we heard the story of someone in charge abusing a child with autism in the news. I also worry about cyber bullying, with our kids being more apt to stay home on the computer than playing outside.

Let everyone know that it is not OK to bully children with autism or any other child! We want to be bully free!
